Jesuit Sacramento High School

Sponsorship Review

The Provincial of the California Province of the Society of Jesus is the only person who can designate that a school within the province boundaries is an apostolic work of the Society of Jesus, a “Jesuit” school. To help the Provincial understand that a school is fulfilling its mission as a “Jesuit” school, the school and the province engage a Sponsorship Review every six years using The Characteristics of Jesuit Education and What Makes a Jesuit High School Jesuit? As guidelines for the review.

The review asks the school to look at itself through three lenses:
   • Its Mission: how is the school Catholic and Jesuit?
   • Its Formation: how does the school form its constituencies in the Ignatian tradition?
   • Its Work: how do the school’s curricular and co-curricular programs form students to be men and women with and for others?

For the review, the school produces a document reflecting the three lenses of Sponsorship; the visiting collegial team produces a report affirming the Jesuit/Ignatian character of the school and making recommendations for further growth; the Provincial receives the school document and the visitors’ report and, with other information he has from his annual visits to the school, decides to grant or continue Sponsorship, to grant or continue Sponsorship provisionally, not to grant or continue Sponsorship.
