Jesuit Sacramento High School

Welcome to the JHS Diversity Corner!

The goal of the Diversity Department and its Director, Mr. Allan Darté, '96, is to ensure the application of the Ignatian term Inculturation and to encourage the Catholic Social Teaching concept of Solidarity. In other words, the goal is to make sure that all members of our community- faculty, staff, administration, parents, alumni and most importantly, students- feel welcomed, valued and included. A strong commitment to social justice and christian service is inherent to the mission of Jesuit High School, not to mention the central theme of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Diversity program is intended to make sure that these terms are not simply empty phrases, rather that they become the foundation of our daily lives and experiences!

Diversity Statement

The signature characteristic of Ignatian Education is illustrated by the practice of inculturation, defined by Fr. George W. Traub, SJ in Do You Speak Ignatian as "a modern theological concept that expresses [the] principle...that the gospel needs to be presented to any given culture in terms intelligible to that culture and allowed to grow up in the 'soil' of that culture." This requires the practice of always seeking the magis, or the "more courageous response to the challenge of our time," namely mercy and justice for all God's children, despite their race, religion, economic background or sexual orientation. As God does so graciously with us, we must meet people where they are! (more)
